FireFox has all the three. Plugins, Addons and Extensions.
1. The functionality of plugins is generally not visible. Example is Flash Plugin.
2. Extensions change the code being used in Firefox to provide more functionality. Example: Cooliris.
3. Addons add additional code to the existing code. Example: PDF Download addon.

By the way, I can’t imagine FireFox without the Ctrl+Tab Extension.
