OnMyFirefox; 1st.Add on – Ctrl-Tab

ctrl-tabFirst I want to give a little warning; from the moment I started this blog I have been posting DAILY….
I decided to slow it a bit down.

No; this does not mean you will see a monthly post (like some blogs seem to be doing); I will be posting on a regular base,

Monday – Wednesday and Friday.

And now today’s post;
I have been this on “lots of blogs” – so why not on this one uh…??

Yes,  I am starting series of posts!
In this first series “OnMyFirefox; my add-ons”;  I will tell you about all the add-ons I am running on my Firefox.

The weird part is; I always kept calling those plugins – but Firefox is calling them “extensions”….  They also have plugins – but in all honesty = I don’t really know the difference….anybody..??

And I am starting with; Ctrl-Tab.

Probably you do know the Alt-Tab function within windows; it shows you in tabs the screen you have currently open. In Vista also with Start-tab (even nicer !!)
Well; Ctrl-tab is doing that with your currently open tabs within Firefox. And Ctrl-Shift-A shows all those open tabs in a grid – with a search included.

Description mentioned on the Ctrl-Tab add-on page;

Long Description

(Shift+)Ctrl+Tab navigation for Firefox tabs:
* Tabs are presented in most-recently-used order, similar to Alt+Tab on various operating systems
* Releasing Tab and pressing it again moves to the next preview
* Pressing W closes the selected tab
* Releasing Ctrl switches to the selected tab
* Hidden preferences: browser.ctrlTab.mostRecentlyUsed

Ctrl+Shift+A / Cmd+Shift+A shows all tabs in a grid:
* Shows all open tabs
* Tabs can be closed by middle clicking
* Search field filters tabs based on their titles and addresses, Enter selects the first tab

  1. “Plugins help your browser perform specific functions like viewing special graphic formats or playing multimedia files. Plugins are slightly different from extensions, which modify or add to existing functionality.”

  2. FireFox has all the three. Plugins, Addons and Extensions.
    1. The functionality of plugins is generally not visible. Example is Flash Plugin.
    2. Extensions change the code being used in Firefox to provide more functionality. Example: Cooliris.
    3. Addons add additional code to the existing code. Example: PDF Download addon.

    By the way, I can’t imagine FireFox without the Ctrl+Tab Extension.

  3. Made it all more clear to me….

    Still wondering if it isn’t a bit confusing…..

    Thanx 2 u both.
