A couple of weeks before I started my holiday – I bought a “new toy”…. This toy would come in handy during my holiday. I would have my email – I would be able to put posts to my Sjeltur.nl blog – would be able to book hotels – would be able to check the weather….

This new toy? The netbook U100 of MSI (Wind). With a 10″  LED screen…
The cpu is an Atom N270 1.60Ghz. Internal Memory of 2GB. Hard disk of 160GB.
Special Netbook version of Windows XP included….

I have been playing with it for weeks now…. so – how does it compare to my laptop….?
Well; surprising well !!
As my business laptop is always running via a docking station; it will only run on the battery for  about 10 minutes.
While this little Netbook is able to run for 5-6 hours…(6-cell battery is doing that job). WELL; if you are NOT using WiFi-Bluetooth-high screen properties…. and if you are not running any multi-media files…
So; what are you able to do during those 5-6 hours…?? You are right; besides going through your pictures, not a lot without all the above…..
BUT; it also means that is runs with all that stuff “ON”  for about 2 hours….!!
And I have to say; that is impressive! All that – in complete silence…!

Furthermore; why a 10″  instead of (for example) a 8.9″…??
Well; with the 10″  netbook – the keyboard is 92% of a normal sized keyboard… that is still a good size and I was really able to work with it.

An extra nice part; just over a kilo – just fits in a shoulder bag (and yep; MSI is including a nice netbookcase !!).

It was really nicely working; but you have to remember – it is NOT a full computer or laptop. It runs surprisingly fast, BUT I had (and still have) problems with Firefox… it really takes about 2 minutes before that browser is running…. All the other programs – couple of seconds and everything is running!
Also remember – no cd/dvd player included….!! Yep – you will have enough USB ports !

I do have a new friend….. my little – handy – silent -  fast MSI netbook.
Easy to use during a holiday – a train ride – on the couch in the living room – etc.
Way better than the 100kgs laptops, which makes a sound like a plane is leaving, making burn spots on my legs and takes all the space in my suitcase…..
