Hybrid News; new theme from Justin Tadlock
As you probably know; I am using one of the themes of Justin Tadlock = the Options theme with Good&Evil as the child theme. Unfortunately Justin decided to discontinue this theme and it is not longer available for download….
BUT; nothing to be sad about… .he also came with some new themes and the latest News Theme is a real nice one !!
The Hybrid theme is already an “old one” – but last week he released the News as the new child theme.
What is so special about it…??
You can choose between 1 or 2 sidebars… or even both… Widget can be used in the header – the sidebar – the footer.
Nice slider for your pictures. A nice set up for a front page. Etc.etc.etc.
And the nicest part is; you can join the forum and get all kinds of advice…
I already got this one running on my local server and am busy with making my adjustments……
“Tweaking”; some would call it… Making it more “my theme”….. Putting myself “in control of the theme”…
Why am I putting in all these lines…??
Well; just read the dilemma of Justin on his weblog posting “The Slippery Slope Dilemma: how much control should users have“!!
Just remember; you need the original Hybrid theme - to make the Hybrid News theme work !!
As I said before; OnMyComp is running on 2 “paid for” programs; Windows Vista 64-bit and Fruityloops.
Well; I also did a payment to Justin – as a “thank you” for making the great themes – but this is NOT A MUST. His themes are totally free !!

I notived that you can download the theme, but the widgets you have to pay $25US for. I dont have a credit card or paypal account so I guess Ill have to search for free widgets to insert into this theme.

But; this theme does come with the widgets included ! No need to pay for anything… (well; the forum gives more details – but you can also register for free !!)
The only important thing is; read the instructions very well !!

Could you please explain what do you do to get the theme front page looking like in the demo?
I am already know that the solution must be in:

But I don’t have a credit card or a PayPayl account to pay $25 just to read that page.
And anyway, I think that pay for see a Support page about a “Free” theme is buy the theme, and it doesn’t make sense.
Hope that you can help me, because there are no more information about over internet.

I am not really agreeing with you on the Free theme; the theme is still free and is very clear and easy in use…. IF you want to do extra stuff with the theme; it could be useful to check the support page… for which you have to pay.
The question you put down is answered in the “read me” file of the theme (included in your download);
The theme comes packaged with an extra page template for you to use called Front Page.
When you write a page, scroll down toward the bottom of the Write Page panel and select the template of your choosing. You can also set this as your home page by going to Settings > Reading and choosing the page you added the template to as your front page.
SHORT VERSION; make an empty new PAGE – select the “Front Page” template. Save this page (maybe also call it frontpage)
Then go to Settings > Reading and select “static page” and in the dropdown select the “frontpage” as your option.
This all should give you the nice view of the Hybrid News.
