Firewall; maybe you already have one..?? Your router…!
I already told you before about AVG – the free anti-virus program. A follow up on that one would be to maybe recommend a firewall…..??
Yep; I am recommending a real nice…. But this one is not for free…. OR; maybe you already own one?
A lot of people do not know all the features of their (wireless) router. Okay – not all of them have this option = but a lot of routers have a build in firewall. I am using my build in firewall for over 2 years now and I never had any kind of problems. It protects you from all the traffic which is trying to get in. But NOT for traffic going out.
That is the part where the good anti-virus program is important; that one will make sure you will not have any kind of malware – which will try to connect via your computer to the outside world.
So today’s tip; look at the features of your router – maybe it already has a “build in” firewall = and in combination with a good anti-virus program – your computer should be pretty safe…. (well; mine has been for more than 2 years now…..).
can i add something? if you’re using NAT on the router, it should act more or less like a firewall too. it will protect from outside threat but not if you’re the one initiating the connection.
