Firefox 3.5 and Windows 7 and previous Firefox
Yes – we are back in the “land of non holiday”…. With other words; holiday is over and we are back to do our posts on OnMyComp.com….!!
We will not be “back on track” yet – which means there will not be as many updates as “before the big holiday”…….!!
As promised by Mozilla; today Firefox 3.5 has been released……….
I did a fast update…. but then realized that some of my ads-ons are not working… So I turned back to version 3.0.1.1
With this little step; I discovered two things which can be valueable to the readers – within Windows 7 updating to Firefox 3.5 AND going back to the previous version….!!
First; some people are probably (like me) running Windows 7 – they did they the “Help” and “Check for Updates” and tried to install Firefox 3.5.
And most of them will get the following problem; you need to restart Firefox and after a while you are getting the message “not able to update”….. OOOPS…..
What happened…??
Well; those people probably have their Firefox “pinned to the taskbar”…. this means that Firefox will always be running in the background…
So;
- Rightclick on the Firefox on the taskbar and click the “Unpin this program from the taskbar” …….
- Close Firefox….
- After some seconds restart Firefox and do the updating again…..
- This time it will succeed the updating process !!!
- After that; pls remember to do rightclick on the Firefox icon in the taskbar and “Pin this program to taskbar”…..
After you did install your Firefox 3.5 – you MAY discover that some of your add-ons are not working anymore…. – so maybe you want to go back to your previous version…?
Go to the ftp of Firefox; overhere
- Click the version you want to install (I clicked “latest-3.0″)
- Click “win32″ to get the Windows version
- Click the language you need (en-US is the most used one; English version)
- Click the one WITHOUT .asc on the end (you will start download this one)
- Open this file to install this version….
- Voila – the 3.5 version is gone….and your add-ons are working again !!
