Extended ASCII; a list of combinations

onmycompasciiOne of “the oldest tricks” with writing on a computer; the ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange.

While writing an article – you sometimes need a “weird character”….
A lot of people do know about the excistance of the combination of the ALT-digit combination…… for example; é (ALT 130).
For the people who do not know about this; just press the ALT button – while keeping this one pressed – type 130. You can now take your finger from the ALT button – AND….. the é will appear…

But to know ALL OF THEM..??? Nah – little bit too much uh…??

Well; I found a nice list, the extended ASCII list,  you will find it as a GIF imagine on the bottom of this post.

While searching for this; I also find a little webtool of TypOrganism on which you can make a ASCII  picture of “any JPEG of 60*50 pixel”.

For example you can see on the top left of this post the ASCII picture of the OnMyComp.com logo !!

  1. It should be noted that this only works with the numerical keypad…

  2. How do the Ascii symbols work using an HP Pavillion Dv6000 ?
The key combinations ALT+….. won’t work.
I have tried FN+…. and nohing happens,
I have tried Ctrl+….. and neither does.

    What should I do?

  3. @Hellguz; As you can see in the comment of Rudy; it only works with a numerical keypad. (if you have a NORMAL keyboard – on the total right side)

Most laptops do not have this.

    Sorry !!

  4. Thanks for the quick reply. I have the solution for laptops and want to share with the world.

I examined my machine and found out that when pressing “Fn+Num Lk” you are able to activate the NumPad, then you can use Alt+numbers.

Keys M,J,K,L,U,I,O have a number from 0 to 9 respectively. This way the combination Sjeltur talked about is possible.

I also browsed the web and downloaded a Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, which is a good tool for editing existing keyboards or creating new ones. You all can get it at Microsoft’s; but if u don’t wanna waste yer time in dumby question, get it directly from http://files.filefront.com/MSKLCexe/;8387676;/fileinfo.html

I hope it helps. Tell me if it did on your machines.
    Good Luck !

  5. @Hellguz – thanx for sharing !!
I (almost) never use the keyboard of my laptop; I have it connected (via a docking station) to a full keyboard. But staring at the keyboard of my laptop – do also see this solution.
    But thanx again for sharing…
More suggestions and tips are welcome !!
